When your tooth gets a cavity, or has a build up of decay, the tooth enamel starts to break down and deteriorate the tooth. At that time, the doctor must remove all decay from the affected tooth. Once removed, a small hole will be left where part of the tooth used to be. To fill the hole, we add tooth colored filling in place of the removed decay, which also protects the exposed tooth.
A popular method used to enhance the aesthetics of your smile. It is essentially the same as a filling, but is not replacing decay. It can be used to correct any of the following:
- Cracks in teeth
- Gaps in teeth
- Chipped or broken teeth
- To cover up stained or discolored teeth
- We first roughen the tooth surface and apply an adhesive/bonding material.
- A composite resin (the tooth colored material) is used to fill in the area(s) on the tooth or teeth.
- An ultraviolet light is used to harden the resin, which is then polished to give you a fresh, new smile.
Tooth colored fillings are an obvious improvement over silver fillings. It is a safe, affordable, and attractive solution for fixing tooth decay and many other dental problems.
